Roosters reach sexual maturity between 4 and 5 months, although they will continue to grow for a few months after that. They remain active with the hens for several years but slowdown in their later years. The Roosters we sell are typically between 4 and 18 months. The Barred Rock (Plymouth Rock) is a Heritage Breed chicken that has been a backyard favorite for years. It is a hardy “dual-purpose” bird (good for egg production and meat). Due to their docile nature they also make great pets. They are prolific layers of large brown eggs and are cold hardy with great production even in the winter.
